Dental prophylaxis, (also referred to as "dental or teeth cleaning") is recommended for pets with signs of tartar buildup and periodontal disease. Dental cleanings are an anesthetic procedure.
While your pet is sedated, we are able to examine each tooth closely for abnormalities. We carefully clean and scale the gum line to check for pockets and disease. We remove plaque and tartar using an ultrasonic scaler. The teeth are then polished, leaving a completely smooth surface on the tooth. This discourages plaque and bacteria from adhering to the rough tooth surface. Extractions are sometimes necessary to improve your pet's health, and will only performed if a tooth is at risk of causing discomfort to your pet. |
